Moving Checked Baggage To A Connecting Flight

I have a flight from Detroit to Chicago on American Airlines with a connecting flight in Chicage on Spirit Airlines to Los Angeles. Will American move my checked baggage to the Spirit flight if I give them the flight information when I check in at the counter in Detroit?

No, Spirit Airlines does not have interline agreements with other airlines so American will not be able to transfer your bag in Chicago to the Spirit flight.

You will have to collect your bag at the AA baggage claim and then re-check the bag at the Spirit Airlines ticket counter when you check-in for their flight to Los Angeles.
