London Connection

I booked my flight from Glasgow Scotland 8/30/13 to DFW on American Airlines. It will be #6251 from Glasgow to Gatwick and #79 from Heathrow to DFW. My question is, will I have to get my luggage at Gatwick or will it be checked on through to DFW even though there are two airports involved? This influences my transportation choices from Gatwick to Heathrow. Thank you for your assistance.
