- Installation
- 1
Exit any currently active applications and shut down your laptop. Disconnect the power cord and any attached peripheral devices. Locate and slide the battery release latch. Remove the battery.
- 2
Turn your laptop over and locate the memory module cover in the center of the bottom of the case. Locate and remove the screws securing the memory module cover in place. Remove the cover and set it aside.
- 3
Remove the currently installed memory module, if necessary. Spread apart the clips holding the module in place, then slide the module out of the connector. Set the removed memory module aside.
- 4
Insert the new memory module into the connector at an angle. Press down on the module until you feel the clips lock into place.
- 5
Replace the memory module cover and secure it to the laptop using the previously removed screws. Replace the battery and reconnect the power cord and any previously disconnected peripheral devices.
- 6
Turn on your computer and log into Windows. Right-click on the system tray and select "Task Manager." Navigate to the Performance tab and examine the entries under the Physical Memory heading to confirm that the memory module has been properly installed. Installation is now complete.

You can purchase a new memory module for your Acer Aspire 5920 from an online supplier (see link in Resources). If you are removing an old memory module during installation, store it in the same anti-static packaging that your new module came in. During installation, minimize the risk of a static discharge by touching one of the metal surfaces on the back of the laptop every so often. If your laptop does not start up properly after installation, repeat Step 1 and Step 2 and confirm that the memory module is properly seated in its connector.

When handling your memory modules, always grip them by the plastic edges. Do not touch the copper contacts on the bottom edge.
