Insert the Windows Vista recovery disk that came with your Acer Aspire 5570 into the laptop's DVD drive. Power the laptop off and then power it back on with the disk still in the drive.
- 2
Press "Enter" when prompted to boot the Acer laptop from the recovery disk. Select your language from the drop-down menu and click "Next."
- 3
Click "Repair Your Computer." Choose "Microsoft Windows Vista" from the list of operating systems and click "Next."
- 4
Click "Restore" and wait to see if there is a restore point that the Acer Aspire 5570 can load. Click "Finish" if a restore point appears in the window to boot the laptop to the Windows Vista operating system.
- 5
Click "Advanced Options" if no restore point is listed. Click "Startup Repair" and then choose "Restart" to have the recovery disk search for the cause of the problem.
- 6
Remove the recovery disk. Power off the Acer Aspire laptop. Power it back on and check to see if Windows Vista will boot up normally.
- 7
Place the recovery disk back into the DVD drive if Windows Vista will still not boot up. Press Enter and then select "Install Windows." Follow the prompts on the screen to clean your hard drive and re-install Windows Vista.

Press the power button to turn on the computer. Check to see if any lights come on, and listen to see if you can hear internal components and fans running. If nothing happens at all, then you have a power problem. Check your power cord, power switch, and the power supply in the PC case. If there is activity, then your power system is good.
- 2
Look at the screen for the BIOS splash screen. This will often be a screen with your computer manufacturer's name or motherboard manufacturer's name on it. You will see "Press F2 to Enter Setup" somewhere on this screen. If you see only a black screen or just a blinking cursor, then the problem is most likely with your motherboard. If you see the splash screen, press F12 to attempt to boot into Windows XP safe mode. If you cannot boot windows even into safe mode, then you most likely have a hard disk problem and will need to replace your hard disk.
- 3
If the computer boots into Windows safe mode, but will not boot into Windows normally, then you probably have corrupted system files. From the "Start" menu, navigate to "Accessories", then "System Tools" and select "System Restore."
- 4
Follow the prompts in the system restore tool to restore your Windows XP system to it's last good state. If startup files have become corrupted, or a conflict with recently installed software exists, then this should fix the problem allowing you to once again boot into Windows normally.

Check the power supply. If you are trying to power the computer on and it either does not turn on or just randomly shuts off, there is most likely an issue with the power supply. In this case, the solution is to replace the power supply. Check whether your computer is still under warranty with Dell. Most Dell computers feature a one-year warranty, during which the company will most likely replace any faulty system components. If the computer is not under warranty, you will have to pay to have the power supply replaced. Contact Dell customer support for warranty issues (see Resources).
- 2
Identify the software issue. If your computer is starting up, but you are receiving a blue screen error, chances are there is something amiss with your system settings or operating system (OS). When the computer experiences the error, reboot the system. To do this press and hold the computers power button until the system powers down. Then press the power button again to restart the system. As the system boots, you will be presented with boot options. Select "Reset System to a Previously Saved Stable System Configuration." If the error persists, insert the Dell operating system install disk into the appropriate drive and reset the computer. You will be prompted with the option to boot from the operating system disk. Select that option and press enter. Boot from the operating system disk and from the menu selection "Repair.". You can then reset the computer to factory settings, which can fix the computer's problems. This option will erase all saved data on your hard drive, so be cautious when restoring to factory settings.
- 3
Contact Dell if you are still experiencing errors. If using the Dell-provided OS software is unable to solve the problem, contact Dell customer support. Because the error may be related to a problem with your specific Dell computer, accessing the webpage from a non-affected computer can help. Dell has a customer support webpage that can help pinpoint and troubleshoot problems. If you are unable to access the Internet while trying to troubleshoot, contact Dell customer support for Netbooks and Desktops at 800-874-4096. Have the computer in question ready, because the customer service support professional will need its specific identification numbers to look up the product information. See Resources for a list of all Dell customer support phone numbers.
