Thermal Module-uma

Just had an Acer ASpire repaired and the replaced items were (a) Thermal Module-uma & (B) Upper Case Assy / incl. tp/tp. What are the functions of these two items?

The upper case assembly is the top part of the laptop chassis that they keyboard mounts into. See here: http://www.notebooksolutions.ca/zc/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=8614

I believe that "tp/tp" refers to the touch pad.
