Using recovery disks is the fastest and simplest way to restore your Acer computer to its factory settings.
- These disks already contain all of the information needed to restore your computer to the settings it had when it first emerged from the factory, allowing you to quickly put your computer back to these original settings and remove everything added to the computer since that point.
- If you purchased anew Acer laptop, it may have come with these disks. If not, you can create them yourself. Be sure the computer is in the factory settings before attempting this process so you do not accidentally erase all of your data in the process.
Purchase a set of blank CD-R disks to ensure you have enough for the full recovery process. Use the search bar in the "All Programs" menu to search for "Recovery."
There is an option for copying system recovery disks. Select this program and note the number of blank disks necessary to copy the entire recovery program. Insert a blank disk and go through the process, burning each disk and labeling it carefully in the order it copies so you know how to use it later.
Back Up Your Files
Restoring your laptop to factory settings is known as a destructive recovery method.
- This is because going through the process of restoring these settings destroys all data added to the computer since the original factory settings.
- This means once you go through this process, all of your files, documents, photos, videos, and other information will no longer be accessible.
- Backing up your data protects these files and ensures you still have access to them when you use your Acer again or start using a new computer.
- Connect aUSB drive to transfer all of your files and data, or save specific types of files on individual flash drives for later organization and access. Be sure to disconnect this external drive before going through the recovery process.
Use Disks for Recovery
- If you have recovery disks for your Acer Aspire 4720Z, make sure they are in the correct order before using them. Ensure all of your data has transferred and you are ready to completely wipe and reset your computer.
- Power down the computer and then turn it back on. When the first boot logo appears, press the "F12" command repeatedly until the boot menu appears. If your computer does not have a built-in optical drive or your optical drive is broken, use anexternal optical drive.
- Insert the first recovery disk and press the "Enter" key. This initiates the Acer Recovery Media system. Follow the prompts on the screen to move through each step in the recovery process, changing out the disks as indicated by the program.
Use Recovery Manager
- Without recovery disks, you need to utilize your computer's built-in recovery manager system. Access this program by turning off the computer and then turning it back on, pressing the "Alt" and "F10" keys until the boot menu appears.
- Press the "Enter" key to activate the menu and select "Restore Operating System to Factory Defaults." Read the warnings fully so you understand the effects of this recovery process, and then click "Next." Move through each step of the recovery, hitting "Next" as you proceed.
- When prompted, initial a restart. This is the final step in reestablishing the factory settings. Once it restarts, prepare the computer for use again by going through the First Time Setup Wizard.
