Not Reading Sd Cards

my computer suddenly will not read or upload images from my digital cameras sd card

This may be the result of some Windows update.  Look in the device manager and see if any devices are listed as unknown.  Right click My COmputer and select Manage.  Expand the device manager from there.

You may need to reinstall the reader drivers or back out any recent Windows updates.

The internal cable on the reader may have fallen off as well, or the reader may simply have died.

Did you change to a new SD card?  Is it SDHC?  Most older readers cannot read the new SDHC cards.
