How To Fix Black Screen
when i turn on the machine i can hear it start up, but i get a black screen. if i look real hard in can see the shadow of the login screen in the background.

It may just be settings, the easiest way to test this is o hook the laptop up to a standard monitor. It may just be a loose cable, or the cable may be damaged. It happens with laptops because the cable gets bent back and forth everytime the screen is opened. Unfortunately it normally costs more to replace the screen than purchasing a new laptop.
