Step 1

Launch the Yahoo Messenger application on your computer. Enter your username and password and click the "Sign In" button if you're not already signed in.

Step 2

Click the "Contacts" search bar at the top of the screen. A text box becomes active for you to enter a search term.

Step 3

Type in the chat ID of the person you want to look up and select "Instant Message" from the drop-down menu to the right of the text box. A list of results is displayed.

Step 4

Browse through the search results to find the profile of the person you want to connect with. Click the contact's name or chat ID, depending which is displayed, to view their profile.

Step 5

Click the "Next" button to add them to your contacts list. A connection request is sent to the profile owner.
