Your Whirpool model does not have a built-in water filter. So I assume your ice tastes bad. Solution: install a inline water filter behind the fridge were the water comes in. The water valve that the water line goes into to fill the ice maker, has a quick disconnect fitting on it. To take the water line out of the water valve see this video.

Get a John Guess type quick connect inline water filter. And install it between the water line behind the frigde and the fridge. And you will also need a little more water line to connect to the fridge from the filter.

If I helped please accept my answer. Thanks.
