Innotab Does Not Turn On

After only 30 minutes of use, our Innotab no longer turns on. We have changed the batteries several times to no avail. We do not have the AC adapter. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I contacted Vtech about this. After a 43 minute hold, I spoke to a gentleman who asked me to hold down the power button for 15 seconds. After that he asked me to turn the unit back on. It wouldn't turn on, so he said it was defective and told me that he will have a replacement mailed out 'sometime in January' as they are currently out of stock. He didn't give me a confirmation number or anything so I'm a little nervous about what will happen.
