Winter Stability In A 2007 Xc70

we started out on a trip in a snowstorm. the roads were center bare with light falling snow. We had a passenger in the passenger seat weighing 300 pounds and driver at 180 pounds with a second passenger in the back at 115 pounds (no luggage to speak of). We have new Blizzak tires on the car. The car seemed to be totally out of control at anything over 40mph, feeling like I was driving on ice, with the back end wanting to constantly break free. Problems and solutions please.
