Unable To Contact Certain Nmobile Phone Number

When I text my grand-daughter i get message 'failed message not sent' and when i ring i get message'this number is not connected or if you have dialled correctly this number is not available from this network' why is this as my friend has virgin mobile and she had not problem with this same number
