Broadband Home Pc Very Slow Since Aol Security Installed Recently.

can I improve speed back as original without compromising security? how can i further speed up computer which might be running slow as a result of data saved over several years? please provide answers if poss in simplistic, non-jargon form if poss as I am 55 years of age and not very computer savvy!
