This general subject was addressed at http://www.quora.com/search?q=best+vehicles+to+dri..., and I've quoted it below in boldface. I would add that there may be a slight advantage in a greater capacity, for those few occasions when the pickup is for a large number of folks. This has to be balanced against the increase in costs. Here's the quote:

The best vehicle for making money is the cheapest car you can get that will also be fuel efficient and be reliable so that you can go pickup many customers. You'll have to make those calculations based on your own performance as an Uber driver. So make sure you compare with the vehicles out there. If you buy a used car, now is no better time to acquaint yourself with the inner workings of vehicle maintenance.

unless your vehicle was in a totaled, there's nothing that cannot be repaired or replaced on a vehicle. of course brand new or recertified vehicles have maintenance plans and warranties. Leases are nice for that as well.
