Turtle Beach Headset Earforce X12 Won't Pick Up Voice.

I've had the turtle beach ear force x12 for nearly a year now, and since last Christmas I've been able to chat with my mic. But just recently I went to get on team speak and the mic wasn't picking up. I've done the whole thing with going to the control panel and hitting sound, I have the mic set up (it has a little green check mark) and I can hear it giving feedback, but when I try to talk it has horrible echoing effect and nothing but static. I've reset my computer, I've disabled and re-enabled the mic. The headphones work fine but the mic won't pick up my voice. Sadly I'm not sure how long its been like this. But I can assume its roughly been a month because that was the last time I disconnected it from my computer to transport. Also the plastic on the wire has come off and the wires are unraveled near the small piece where it has the "chat" "game" "bass boost" and "Xbox" wire.  -Thanks
