It depends upon the version of TurboTax you're using.

You can transfer from last year's PDF file in the TurboTax CD/Download software. However, only basic information will transfer over, such as name, address, filing status, Social Security number, dependents, AGI, and bank information for direct deposit. For this reason, we recommend transferring from the data file instead. More info.

In contrast, TurboTax Online cannot transfer from the PDF file. It can only transfer from the TurboTax CD/Download data file (filename extension .tax). Click here for instructions.
