2007 Rear Wiper Blade, Torqued 'down'

Rear wiper blade on my 2007 Forester split, and in the process (apparently), the wiper arm "torqued" downward, so that the blade mechanism overlaps the lower rear door at a 30 degree angle.I can certainly replace the wiper blade, but why on earth would the blade ever torque past it's "rest" position at the base of the rear window?Thank you for any information--DJE
