Red

System Error:

If a Red LED is blinking and the TV is not working properly it means that the TV has detected an issue or problem. Most Red LED blink conditions require service.

The meaning of the blink codes differs between TV models. However, the number of blinking times is mostly 2 to 8.

If a Red LED is blinking, try the troubleshooting procedure below. If the procedure does not solve the issue and the Red LED is still blinking, check how many times it blinks and then contact support.

NOTE: 8 Times Blink - For certain models, a special reset procedure is needed if the Red LED on the front of the TV is blinking 8 times and then repeats. This is a model-specific issue that may be resolved by following these steps (please check the answer to be sure your model is included).

Turn the TV off and back on

If the TV will not respond to the remote or the power button, or if that does not fix the issue, unplug the TV. For a Projection TV or Projector, leave it off for 3 minutes. For other TVs leave it off for 1 minute. Plug the TV back in and turn it on.

NOTES:

If the TV is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.

Projection TVs and projectors need to cool down before they will turn on again. You may need to wait several minutes before these will turn back on.

Clean any vents/slots in the TV cabinet

Make sure there is room for air to circulate around the cabinet of the TV.

Turn off the TV and unplug all devices connected to the TV

Turn off the TV and disconnect all connected devices. With all devices disconnected, turn on the TV again and check whether the LED blinks.

If it does not blink, the issue may be in the connected devices.

If still blinks, proceed to Step 4.

Update the TV software to the latest version

If your TV is connected to the Internet, press the Home or Menu button on the remote to get into the setting menus. The Software Update option is usually found under the Product Support or Contact Sony menu.

In addition, you can check to see if a software (firmware) update is available for your television on our support site. Steps to install will be included if an update is available.

NOTES:

For a limited number of Internet-capable models, the only option is to turn on Automatic Software Updates and allow the TV to update on its own. If you only have this option, make sure it is set to On.

Older CRT TV's and TV's that cannot be connected to the Internet do not have an option to check for a software update or may not capable of being updated.

Other things to check for some specific products

Some Sony TVs have a media box (tuner) and separate display. If you have one of these TVs, check to make sure the cable between the media box and the display is securely connected.

For Projection TVs and Projectors, make sure that the cover/door for the lamp is closed and secure.

Orange/

Amber

Timer:

A solid Orange/Amber light means that a timer has been set and is active on the television.

Sleep Timer - the TV will turn off after a set amount of time

On/Off Timer - turns the TV on and off at set times of the day

NOTE: Timers can be set, changed, or turned on/off in the Settings menu of the television.

Software Update:

For an Orange/Amber blinking light with LCD and Plasma displays that have a media box (tuner) and separate display, check to make sure the cable between the media box and the display securely connected.

For other TVs, a blinking Orange/Amber light means that the television is receiving a software update. This only happens if your TV is connected to an active high-speed Internet connection.

Do not turn off the television or remove power during a software update.

Your remote control will not work while an update is being downloaded/installed.

Updates may take a few minutes to download and install. Please be patient. The TV will return to normal operation after the update finishes.

Green

Blinking while TV is turning on:

A Green or White light may blink while the TV is powering on. This is normal and will stop once the TV comes on. If the light continues to blink and the TV does not come on or if the TV comes on and then turns off and the process starts over again, unplug the TV for 3 minutes then plug it back in and try again. If the problem continues, the TV will need to be serviced.

If a Green or White light blinks followed by a Red blinking light, follow the steps above for the Red blinking light.

Solid or blinking while the TV is on:

A solid Green or White light on the front of the television means that the TV power is on.

A Green or White light that blinks when you press a button on the remote control simply shows that the TV is receiving the signal from the remote. Not all televisions have this feature.

NOTE: Some newer TVs have a White LED in lower center under the screen. If desired, this LED can be turned off in system settings.

WhiteLamp

Light

Replace Lamp (For Projection TV or Projector only):

If the Lamp Light is blinking it means that the lamp has burned out and needs to be replaced.

When replacing the lamp be sure not to touch the glass surface. If you accidentally touch the surface of the lamp, clean it with an alcohol wipe to remove any oil residue. If you do not do this, the life of the lamp can be shortened.

Make sure to properly close and secure the covers/doors for the lamp.

No Lights

Normal:

TV is turned off or the TV is not plugged in.

On some sets, this may indicate that the Energy Saving Switch on the side of the TV is turned off. If your TV has this switch, it must be turned on for the TV to operate.

Thanks
