Display Does Not Light.
Why is the display of my SHARP EL-1197 not lit up?

There could be a loose or damaged wire behind the display, or the power to the display might be interrupted. You would probably have to take the calculator apart to figure out exactly what was causing the problem. If you bought the EL-1197 less than 6 months ago, it may still be covered by warranty, in which case you could contact Sharp for service or repair.
