Shuts Off

Was only used for 1 summer. It's been 2 yrs. since it was used. Will only run for a few minutes, then operation and timer light flash. After 4 mins., everything turns off, then red and green light start flashing. I lost the remote also. Can you help?

I had the same problem today but found the answer and my unit is working fine again. You might have to drain the unit if there is water in it first. If there is no water in it you just have to do a simple reset. Unplug the unit from the wall for AT LEAST 2 MINUTES (I had mine unplugged for 20) then plug it back in and press the reset button on the plug. Now turn it back on. That's it. It should work fine unless it needs to be serviced. I kept plugging mine right back in at first and it kept turning itself off with the lights flashing even after I drained it but this specific procedure worked perfectly after I contacted SHARP to find it out. For some strange reason it's not in the troubleshooting part of the manual and it should be. I hope this helps.

If the reset does not work and there is definitely no water in the unit, check the bug screen/area of exhaust. I had this same problem and it was driving me mad as the unit had just been working. After pointless hours on the phone with Sharp, I drove way out of my way to an authorized service tech. Within minutes, he showed me that when the exhuast hose is blocked or overheated, the unit will shut off and/or give a false reading of being full. Chagrined, I went home and cleaned the bug screen (which really wasn't that bad) and the unit worked. To my surprise, the unit also shut off after about an hour. Due to the extreme heatwave we are experiencing, the end of the exhaust hose simply was so warm, that the unit read it as being overheated and shut off. I devised a method of shade outside of the window to prevent direct sun onto the window and exhaust - and it worked!! It was worth the $50 and the drive to get this remedied. It would be nice if Sharp was more up on their game and able to give simple troubleshooting tips like these to avoid aggravation.
