Ir Remote Not Working On Plc-xf12n/12nl

Both IR remote do not cause the projector to react. Top buttons do work. I tried using an sterego audio cable to connect the wired remote, but it did not work either. What typically is wrong? It it easily fixed? Projector is mounted high and needs a remote to access. Using buttons on top makes it work but it is not practical.
