Samsung Hl61a650c1f Dlp
tv wont turn on light fires up then shuts down in15 secs or so put a new bulb in. still does the same thing

Here is rough outline on what has to happen for the lamp to light up and stay lit. first of all the main/digital board receives the "turn on" command, it tells the power supply to start up the "run" voltages and this tells the rest of the set that it's time to come out of the "stand-by" mode. Fans start up and when the microprocessor gets the "OK" signal back from all the circuits, it tells the optical engine to start up. The DMD board runs the optical engine, it controls the DLP chip, the color wheel and the ballast board that controls the lamp. If there is a problem with the DMD board, the color wheel, the ballast circuit or the lamp the microprocessor will not receive the "OK" signal back from the optical engine and the set will turn off and the three LED indicators will blink.
Since you have swapped out the lamp then it's narrowed the problem down by one, but there are several more things that can cause your symptom. If the color wheel is nice and quiet then it's not likely the problem. If it's going bad it will sound like a noisy fan. That leaves the DMD or the Ballast, and either one of these is my best guess, and a technician is probably needed to isolate the two. Just remember the ballast puts out 5,000 volts to ignite the mercury vapor lamp, so stay away from the output wires that feed the lamp.
