Oh, did I mention to unplug the saw?
Materials: plastic blade guard, spring, duct tape, thin piece of wire at least 15 inches long, nut/washer/bolt to attach plastic blade guard to metal blade guard. (It helps to have a second pair of hands)
1. Place bolt through metal guard assembly facting out, then place a piece of duct tape over the bolt head to hold it in place for later in the process
2. Place the spring into the center basin of the guard assembly with the inside spring pin inserted into the plastic pinhole.
3. Hold the spring in place with left hand while looping the piece of wire over the outer-diameter spring pin with the right hand
4. Use the wire to pull the outer-diameter pin into the pinhole on the metal guard assembly.
5. Guide the plastic assembly over the bolt that you earlier taped into place.
6. Remove the guide wire by letting go of one end and pulling the other end out of the assembly.
6. Holding the plastic blade guard firmly in place, raise the guide arm and place it over the duct-taped bolt, taking care to align the 3 slots in the outer-diameter of the guide arm over the 3 notches in the plastic guard assembly (this is the part I missed the first four times I tried it).
7. Place washer over bolt, followed by nut, taking care not to tighten the bolt too much (or the assembly won't work correctly.)
