Why am I getting a Fatal Error 1141? How can I fix it?

Our problem continued even after following the Rosetta Stone recommended solutions....here is how we fixed it for Windows 7 in six steps:

Click START.
On "Search" type...services. Hit ENTER.
Under Services (Local)...Look for "Rosetta Stone Daemon"
It should be marked "Automatic" and "Started"...IF NOT,
Right click "Rosetta Stone Daemon" and select PROPERTIES. And select "Automatic." Close the "Services" window.
Start Rosetta Stone...problem solved.

Works and gets you back into Rosetta Stone.

I have found that if you un-install Zone Alarm, Rosetta Stone fatal error 1141 will go away. I checked this three times, I changed settings in ZA and no luck. Only un-installing it worked.

To piggyback on Celtic Violin's answer, uninstalling ZoneAlarm seems to be the only way to make my Rosetta Stone software function. Spent a couple of hours back and forth with the Rosetta Stone folks--ran the problem through the ringer, but no solution. We narrowed it down to Zonealarm. Turning off the firewall and AV does not work, changing the permissions under application control does not work--only uninstalling it seems to solve the problem. The ZA tech support folks said that adding an exception won't work either (although we did not try). Too bad, since I have been a Zonelalrm customer for a number of years. But as there are alternatives--looks like I may have to change...
