If you are checking after hours and forgot your pin most times if you have phone or online banking set up you should have a security question set up to answer just in case this happens. If you are checking within banking hours then you can call the local bank and they will ask you for your account number which you can read them off the bottom of your check and they will want you social security number and then you can get your balance and they will tell you how to fix a new pin number. If bank is not open and you have online checking there is a place where you can get your pin reset where you log in at. Just check the forgot pin and they will send you an email to reset. If you don't have online banking and bank is not open and automated phone response is all you have to use at the moment there is not much you can do but listen to all the options and see if they have an option for a forgotten pin and listen to instructions. If still no help then you will have to wait for bank to open or long shot; if you have never changed pin, a lot of banks will give you a pin of the last 4 digit of your social security number until you change it but it is long shot due to security. If you are going to make a purchase with a debit card you can always just try it and the worst can happen is cashier will say not enough funds. Some cards can be used as credit cards so if you use it as credit you don't need pin you just sign receipt. That is only in store though. If you use automatic teller you must have pin.
