Tablet Defective Help

This was a gift and its only a few months old. It was fine when we went to bed came to use it the next day and when you hit the power button and for a second or so the image looks like a spider web crack then all goes dark. No damage to the table. not screen cracks etc. We need to know what to do? Shouldn't this be covered under the warranty being a defect and not any damage? What is the process to get this resolved. Any help would be Wonderful. thanks very much.
