Finding A True Sales Number For Year To Date

When I get a report to compare sales over time for last year and this year Jan 1 - Nov 21 i am given one number. when looking at sales for just Jan 1 thru Nov 21 2013 It shows a difference in sales for 2013 of over 100,000.00 Which number is correct?
