how do I remove the icons that pop up on the top and bottom of screen.

It will most likely be necessary to know the model number of the TV you are using with the remote as the icon must be governed by the TV. Otherwise, the remote's manual is available here https://www.helpowl.com/manuals/Philips/SRP5107/92529
