Why Does My Dcm250 Continuously Cut Out?

Frequently, when listening to either the radio or my iPod on my DCM250 the system will cut out (I don't use it for any other purpose). This might happen every few minutes. It doesn't merely go on standby as is the case when the sleep timer is activated, but rather it powers off completely; as if there's no electric supply to it. I then cannot turn it back on, it will generally do this itself after a few minutes. I've checked the adapter into which it's plugged in, and the leads etc but this doesn't seem to be the problem. Do you think this a simple issue or will I need to get it repaired? It's now 20 months old, so it's out of warranty.   Thanks!
