PayPal does accept American Express. Just make sure you have all the info correct including the name on the card, expiration date, billing address, and three digit verification code. If it still doesn't work then I would recommend contacting American Express at 1-800-528-4800.

As far as I know Paypal only accept Visa Master card and discover,,,no american express due to the high fee surcharge.

if you have a dedbit card with either logo it would acepte.

Without knowing what the error is, I can't help much. Is it being declined? Did you forget to enter a field? Is your CSV or expiration date wrong? It could be many things. Need more info.
