To close your account:

1. Log in to your PayPal account.
2. Click Profile near the top of the page.
3. Click My settings.
4. Click Close Account in the Account type section and follow the steps listed.

If you log into your Paypal account, you can change your password. That will stop them from doing anything with your account, especially if you have canceled your credit card on file. If you try to log in, but they tell you it's the wrong password, you are too late. They have taken over your account.

If they have hacked into your account, the first thing they will do is change the password. Then they can use your acccount to buy things on eBay with a stolen credit card. You could be held accountable for any debts they rack up unless you contact Paypal immediately.
