Instructions
    • 1

Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn the engine off.

    • 2

Jack the front of the vehicle up and place the jack stands behind each front tire under the frame rail. Lower the vehicle onto the jack stands. Inspect it to make sure that the vehicle is sitting securely on the jack stands.

    • 3

Remove the front tires with the lug wrench. Unscrew the lugs by turning the lugs counter-clockwise with the lug wrench until loose. Then finish removing the lugs with your fingers. Pull the tire off and set it to the side.

    • 4

Locate the upper and lower bolts that hold the brake caliper together. The brake caliper has two mounting bolts. One of the mounting bolts is typically at the top of the caliper and the other mounting bolt is on the bottom of the caliper. The brake pads are inside of the brake caliper. Use the proper size socket and ratchet or the proper size allen wrench to loosen the upper and lower caliper mounting bolts. Turn the caliper mounting bolts counter-clockwise to loosen and remove them.

    • 5

Slide the caliper straight off of the brake rotor from the topside of the rotor. Do not let the brake caliper hang by the brake line. Secure the brake caliper to the backside of the wheel hub or any part of the inside of the wheel well. Take the flat head screwdriver and pry the brake pads toward the brake cylinder inside of the brake caliper. This will compress the brake cylinder and it will make room for you to lift the old brake pads out of the brake caliper. Remove both brake pads from the brake caliper.

    • 6

Slide the new brake pads inside of the brake caliper. Make sure that the new brake pads are seated inside of the brake caliper just like the old brake pads were. Slide the brake caliper with brake pads back over the brake rotor. Line up the bolt holes and screw the caliper mounting bolts back into the holes. Tighten the bolts with the proper tool. Inspect to make sure that the brake pads inside of the brake caliper match up with the facing of the brake rotor.

    • 7

Slide the wheel back onto the hub. Screw the lug nuts back on the tire and tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench. Turn the lug nuts clockwise to tighten. Follow these same tips for replacing both sets of brakes on the front axle.

    • 8

Jack the vehicle up off of the jack stands. Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle to the ground.

    • 9

Pump the brakes to compress the brakes to the brake rotor and to remove any air. Pump the brakes until the brakes feel nice and tight.

  Tips & Warnings
  • If the flat head screwdriver will not compress the brake pads back far enough to get the new pads in the caliper, use a C-clamp to finish compressing the brake caliper cylinder.

  • Wear safety glasses when replacing brakes because of the brake dust.
