1999 Model Won't Start Security Light Blinking Check Engine Light On

Key bypass worked for me. Measure ohms of resistance across the resistor "chip" in ignition key from one side to the other with a volt/ohm tester ($10 @ home depot or elsewhere). Go to Radio shack and buy resistors totalling to that resistance value in ohms and sodder those together in series to get total resistance equal to key chip ohms value. There are 15 possible resistance values. You should look those up online to make sure what you measure agrees with one of those 15. Or you can order a pack of all 15 single resistors online with each of those values for about $8 plus shipping (better option - no soddering). Pick the one you need for this job. Hard part: under dash near steering wheel column remove plastic cover and locate and cut orange wire that has 2 small white wires inside. Be careful, I cut the wrong one (had one large copper strand inside and had to reconnect). Cut the more supple of the 2 orange wires. Cut and strip those 2 white wires inside and connect in the resister (or hand-made reister pack) with same resistance value as on key chip to each of the 2 white wires coming FROM the FIREWALL (not from the Steering wheel/ ignition switch)!!! This is now your bypass of the ignition switch. You will need to lay on your back with feet out the door while working under the dash! Very uncomfortable after awhile.

Then take a deep breath, say a prayer and try to start the car! Worked for me! And still working 7 months later. Good luck.
