Fuel Gauge Pegged Behind Post

1998 Intrigue, had battery failure. Believe cells shorted out. Before changing battery, gauges went wild flipping back and forth. During the course of this event, the fuel gauge wrapped itself around to the back side of the top limiter post, and stayed there. Is there a simple way to recalibrate this needle?
