1997 Olds Aurora Raditor

Have a hair line crack in Left Raditor tank, what can be used to seal it. What kind of material is it made off? What will stick to it ?

Your radiator is probably made of aluminum. The best way to seal it is with J.B. Weld. I used it to seal a crack in my cast iron engine block and it worked great! Just be sure to get the original one and not the "quick weld", since the original J.B. Weld is much stronger.

Here's how to do it:

1) Drain the radiator down to a level well below the hairline crack.

2) Rough up the hairline crack area with sandpaper.

3) Wash the area with soap and water (I use dish soap).

4) Dry the area completely with paper towels. Make sure it is completely dry before applying the J.B.Weld.

5) Mix and apply the JB Weld with a cheap putty knife or something else that is disposable. Spread it out over the crack and on both sides of the crack a little bit. Keep it thin, but not too thin!

6) If possible, give it 24 hours to cure before filling up the radiator and running the car. I would wait at least 12 hours minimum before filling the radiator.
