Rear View Mirror Wires

The compass and temp. do not work on my rear view mirror. Some of the wires were exposed. I tried pushing the wires in more and it started working, however when I pulled them back out to wrap electrical tape around them and put them back in, it stopped working again. Any ideas that may help?   Thanks,Marcia
