Nissan Frontier Tailgate Lock

The locking latch on my 2001 Nissan Frontier XE tailgate is not working. I can not find a replacment..believe me I have looked. Can you tell me how to fix the locking mechanisim, it is in the lock postition and I can not open my tailgate. No one seems to know what to do. Thank you, C. Wright
