The "gateway" is your link to the Internet. If it does not work you have no connection.
How do you connect, DSL, Cable modem, wireless, LAN?
Open a command propmt and run "ipconfig /all". Scroll back up to the top of the output. Is the gateway listed as a TCP/IP address on at least one of your network adapters settings?
Run this "ipconfig /release", then "ipconfig /renew". Once thats done run this "ipconfig /flushdns". Try to ping google.com, it should return 4 good ping results.
If any of this doesnt work your Internet connection is bad. You'll need to check your connection method for issues.
