Installed A 9800gt Card On Dell Vostro 400, Blackscreens In 2-3 Mins. Why?
Hello. We installed a 9800GT on a Dell Vostro 400 this weekend, following (we think) all instructions in the manual. We also upgraded the power to 400w to support the new graphics card. The computer boots up properly and the monitor display properly for a few minutes. Then it either displays a small gray square in the middle of the screen and then in a few more minutes blackscreens or it simply blackscreens a few minutes after booting up without the little gray square. What can I do to get this working properly? Thanks very much. We're feeling rather frustrated after a weekend of failures.

From the sound of your issue, it seems you have either a video memory problem (the memory built in to the 9800) or an overheating issue. You can download speedfan to check the tempurature of the card, and if its not getting too hot, then it is likely the video memory. That would be an issue that would require replacing the card. If it IS getting too hot, you can try more/better fans in your PC case, or a new cooler for the card, though that usually voids the warranty.
