Well....help. I received the desktop message that "Firefox has determined that the following add-ons are known to cause stability(what's that?) or security pboblems and the solution is to restart my computer which will disable the Java Plug-in 2 for NPAPI Browsers 12.9.0 - " "For your protection, it is highly recommended that you restart with these add-ons sisabled". - I guess that means that if there is a check mark inside the box, and I restart firefox that all will be good?? To my knowledge, I have not downloaded this plug-on.I have a imac 10.5.8 with Firefox version 11. Can you confirm these instructions???Was this message sent by Firefox???

You apparently are not sure that you have the add-on enabled. You can manage all your add-ons by clicking Tools and then Add-Ons in the Tools menu. Doing so will display all your add-ons and give you the opportunity to disable or remove any. We can't of course confirm that Firefox went the instructions, but there seems to be no reason for anyone else to do so.
Hope this is useful. Please don't forget to click the Accept This Answer button if you do accept it. My aim is to provide reliable helpful answers, not just a lot of them. See https://www.helpowl.com/profile/Odin.

I think a vulnerability has been discovered in Java, which was fixed for Windows, but for Macs this is still left open. Many websites may try to open Java applets which - if malicious - would try to steal critical information. On the other hand, many genuine banking websites use Java applets as well. The current recommendation is to disable the Java plugin for Firefox/chrome and enable only when you want it with known websites.
