Power Supply Question

Howdy, I recently bought from Goodwill a 3347-02-100Q Motorola router. It didn't have a power supply with it. I bought two 12 volt supplies at the same time. They both plugged into the Moto unit, and the unit says on the bottom that it needs 12 volts DC power. When I plugged the larger one in, nothing happened. So I plugged the smaller one, says it's good for 200ma. Lights flashed and such. When I turned on my mini, which has wireless capability, I noticed there were no more lights on the router. I checked the output of the smaller power supply and it was dead. I checked the output of the larger supply (1A) and it said 16 volts DC with the center negative with respect to the outer conducter. What is the current rating need to be for this unit? Could the reason the larger supply doesn't work be that the center of the plug is supposed to be positive? Could that be the reason it isn't working? Maybe the smaller one was this polarity and I overloaded it? Thanks for any helpl DZ

Best to download the owners manual for the product to verify specs, but as a general rule you will need 12vdc @ 1amp.

200ma isn't going to cut it.

12vdc Center tip is POSTIVE, outer barrel NEGATIVE.

PS: If you find a 1.5 /2.0amp- that would work fine. With that said use a "Regulated" Powersupply...

On the PS giving out 16vdc-

You have "Regulated" and Un-Regulated Powersupplies...

Un-Regulated= will put out 16vdc with no load.

Regulated = will put out around 12vdc without, or unload

Regulated PS is better...
