How Can I Change How Often Mail@metro Will Check For New Messages?

I have a Samsung Finesse and use mail@metro, and have it set to auto-receive.  But sometimes it will take several minutes after a message arrives at my email server before my cell phone gets it and notifies me.  Is there any way I can change how often mail@metro will check for new emails. No, my email service does not do push-email.  It is a basic IMAP account.
