Forgot lock code . email that the phone is linked to has been deactivated several years ago . how do i unlock my phone?

No worries, you can easily reset your phone to its factory default settings (and the forgotten lock code will be cleared therewith). Then from there go for 'Wipe data/factory reset' > then 'Yes---delete all user data' > then 'Reboot now' ...
