Automatic Transmission Lost The Overdrive

transmission shifts ok from first to second and thrid but instead of going to o/d the transmission cuts out, feels like it's in neutral, when the button to turn o/d is pushed, o/d light comes on and transmission goes to drive. Push button to turn o/d on, o/d light goes off and transmission feels like it is in neutral again.
