What Is That Box??

on a 1997 Mercury Sable. Under the trunk (spare tire holder) underneath the car there's a 2x16 (roughly) vented box with 2 wires (possibly hot & ground) 2 metal fuel lines with a coupler on them coming from the gas tank into the box. A vented pipe coming from feel line.WHAT IS THAT BOX??
