Transfer Case Output Flange

Hi.... I just took my 2002 B3000 Mazda to the shop for an oil change and they tell me I need a new output shaft seal. I have only 41,000 miles on it. Is it likely that I DO need a new seal or are they scamming an old lady? Thanks for any info Glade
