My Maytag Top Load Washer Is Running With The Lid Off And No Lights On

i selcted a wash and it was sensing for a very long time so i stoped it opened it took everything out and it started washing by itself with the lid open and no lights i tried pushing buttons but nothing worked so i unpluged it i didnt want the motor to burn out...pkease help i dont knkw whay to do
