Maytag Centennial # Mvwc400xw3 Will Not Start Wash Cycle

I have a Maytag Centennial mvwc400xw3. It goes through the sensing cycle then I hear a loud humming sound for about 3 minuts (only the lid lock light is on during this 3 minuts) then the lid lock light turns off and the wash light goes on and nothing else happens. The lid is not locked, there is some water in it but not much. the wash light stays on till I unplug the machine. I can drain and spin to get the water out.
