Oven Way To Hot.

I recently replaced a bad heating element in our oven and now it seems the oven is way too hot. When the oven temp is set to 350 it gets a lot hotter than that. We tried cooking a pizza and a cake and they both burned up in just a few minutes. Could the new element do this or is something else possibly bad?
